London September 2016

Award-winning London milliner Harvy Santos is proud to unleash a barrage of bubbles with ’FIZZY POP’, his effervescent new collection of hats and headpieces for Spring/Summer 2017. A colourful, carbonated collision of pop art influences and traditional millinery crafts, the collection of twenty-three new hand-made pieces will be available for viewing at London Fashion Week’s Designer Showrooms and during Paris Fashion Week at Premiere Classe.

‘Beyond the enduring appeal of 20th century pop art, I have lately been inspired by the works of Czar Catstick and Merijn Hos’, says Santos. ’My new collection has both a graphic and comic sensibility, and it’s all about surreal, childlike fun. And pompoms.’ He continues, ‘I probably drank too many fizzy drinks as a child. I probably still do, since I can never say no to champagne. There’s a certain crazy joy that comes from a sugar rush—I think everyone can remember that, and want capture some of that thrill in the form of a hat.’

Santos has chosen seasonal shades of pink, white, black, red and grey as the foundations for classic and signature shapes, then adorned them with sprays and sprinkles of bubbly brights. The collection features traditional straws collaged with colour, tulle gathered into multi-coloured bubbles, pearls floating and dancing in space, and frothy billows of silks and nets.

Born in the Philippines, Harvy began his career as a professional ballet dancer in Hong Kong; he then studied millinery at Kensington and Chelsea College and has worked for The Royal Opera House, Noel Stewart, and Stephen Jones. His classical training, both on stage and in the workshop, continues to inform his elegantly energetic work.

Winner of multiple awards for his work, Harvy was named The HAT Magazine's Hat Designer of the Year in 2013. His hats have appeared in The Telegraph, Brides Magazine, The Financial Times, Vogue Japan, Vogue Turkey, Vogue Netherlands, Harper's Bazaar China, Arena Homme Plus, Cosmopolitan, W Magazine, Elle and T Magazine.

Harvy is honoured to be participating in the British Fashion Council’s Headonism initiative. The collection will also be available for viewing during Paris Fashion Week:
